Hey Sandy, lookin' good! Sorry, I didn't stop by to say "hi" last Sat. I was rushing to set up the Market table for the Dugway Brook Watershed Day at Forest Hills Park. I haven't forgotten about soap making, I have been super busy with the event. Thank goodness its all coming together. U?

Pandemonium Gardens
Tell us about yourself:
I recently began to learn about the concepts of local food, community gardens, urban farming, etc. and try to incorporate sustainable choices into my every day life. This year I'm planning an organic garden together with my boyfriend and neighbor. We hope to eat some things sell some others, and donate even more to food banks and shelters. Can't wait!
What knowledge and practices do you want to learn?
Techniques to irrigate my garden with harvested rainwater. I have the rain barrel part figured out, but am trying to avoid using pumps to distribute the water.
What about local food makes you most excited?
Well besides the obvious ones involving sustainability, and concern for farmers and farm animals, I'm excited to discover all the different varieties of vegetables out there that we can't find in the typical supermarket. The photo on the cover of Barbara Kingsolver's book Animal Vegetable Miracle comes to mind. I've never seen lima beans like that! (see my photos for a scan)

Animal Vegetable Miracle

This book by Barbara Kingsolver changed my entire perspective - in fact, I still don't think I fully understand how much my life will be affected by reading this book. I highly recommend it, if only for the recipes and the wonderful chapter about the turkeys mating.

Introducing Pandemonium Gardens

Well we just finished our second day at Coit Road Farmers Market and decided now is the time to start taking ourselves more seriously... at least a little more seriously. We will be starting a blog and hopefully a website soon. Don't worry - we'll make sure EVERYONE knows about it when it's available!
