What knowledge and practices do you want to learn?
I just started to can food. I'd like to improve my food preservation practices so that I can eat more locally year-round.
What about local food makes you most excited?
Local food excites me because it creates an economy that makes sense; it creates connections between people and their food; it creates connections between people and people, it is a healthy, sustainable, community-minded lifestyle choice. . . I could go on and on and on.

Seed Starting

I am looking forward to trying out what I learned during the OSU Extension seed starting workshop. Next weekend I plan to rig up some fluorescent lights and see what happens. I'll try to post seedling updates here.

District-Wide School Gardening

The Cleveland Board of Education Sponsored gardening awards from 1936 until at least 1975. According to the program I found online, 2,066 children participated from 175 Schools. I wonder why the program was halted (I assume budget cuts) and if it could be re-instated.

Yes, I am not very good on my family's geneology, but Jack and Irene Rorimer are definitely relations. I believe Jack was my grandfather's brother and worked for Empire Plough. There were 8 siblings in the family. I think Jack and Irene's daughter is Joan Rorimer Letvin, who now lives in New Hampshire, but visits here in Cleveland sometimes. She would have a lot more information.

Hey Jenita,

Thanks for the Corner Store plug. There is a cool event going down in Coventry this Sunday that I just got wind of. Its a show by Bread and Puppet out of Vermont. They use giant(!) puppets to perform political commentary-type show.

Talk soon.
